There were 190,649 Quick Serve Restaurants in 2017 in the United States and the projection for 2018 is up about 2% to 194,723 This is the fastest growing segment of the Franchised Food Business, outpacing Retail Food which has seen growth at less than 1% each year for the past 4 years.

What does that mean to you?

Except for Personnel Services, which is growing at 3% per year for the past two years, QSR franchises present a tremendous opportunity. This segment is responsible for 46% of all franchise employment with table service restaurants in second place with 14% of the total.

Quick Service Restaurants: Includes limited-service eating places, cafeterias, fast-food restaurants, beverage bars, ice cream parlors, pizza-delivery establishments, carryout sandwich shops, and carryout service shops with on-premises baking of donuts, cookies, and bagels.

Table/Full Service Restaurants: Establishments primarily engaged in providing food services to patrons who order and are served while seated (i.e., waiter/waitress services) and pay after eating

Retail Food: Includes food and beverage stores; convenience stores; food-service contractors; caterers; retail bakeries; and beer, wine, and liquor stores; as well as gas stations with convenience stores.
